Do you only deal with “gay” acts?

Not at all. We’re not exclusive in that sense. What we are concern with is talent. Having wide appeal is essential, even though we target mainly the gay media.

What can you do for me?

Publicity campaigns for tours, releases, gigs, covering both regional and national gay media in UK and online (and soon to be extended to Berlin and Paris too).

Help setting up tours, as we hold a contact book of promoters (UK and Berlin) who are promoting to similar audiences.

We can work with you to help develop your image, making sure your site and publicity material strike the right notes as well as you do.

If we love what you do and want to work with you, basic services are done for free, as a mail out to contacts costs nothing. More involved campaigns may attract a fee. Just talk to us, we love discussing your ideas and dilemmas.

q:pitch also runs its own gigs.

Isn’t being an openly gay act limiting?

As a rule, we’re not interested in “gay” or “queer” acts. Although we promote largely to the gay media, we believe the people we support have widespread appeal. However, we do believe it is important to be visible if you are gay/queer.

Why is being out important?

Our underlying goal at q:pitch is to kick against stereotypes and promote alternative views and voices. We feel gay media is often the worst offender for perpetuating these portrayals of gay life, so concern with image, surface and of course sex. We may not fit within the mainstream of gay, but that’s no reason not to enjoy the benefits on sitting on its banks.

Why promote to a gay crowd?

Gay audiences are renown for being savvy and often ahead of the curve. Where gays go, straights follow - it’s been noted in music, fashion, retail and real estate. And despite jokes about longevity of relationships, a gay audience can be incredibly loyal and supportive.

Isn’t being an openly gay artist potentially detrimental?

Ask Beth Ditto. Antony Hegarty, Ed Drost (Grizzly Bear), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), Patrick Wolf, Brian Molko (Placebo), Debbie Googe (My Bloody Valentine), the Scissor Sisters…any need to go on?

What kinds of music do you promote?

For our own gigs, it’s mainly bands and singer-song writers. We only book people who can prove themselves as musician. We don’t do people just arsing around having fun. Being a musician takes commitment, practice and patience. We respect that immensely and don’t program anyone that doesn’t take it seriously.
